We are living in the middle of multiple health crises, including COVID, monkeypox, and polio. But many are skipping going to a doctor because of the cost. Millions of people lost health care during the pandemic, and 1 in 5 people are currently drowning in medical debt. It’s heartbreaking: people are dying because they can’t afford care, even though a majority of people support expansions to Medicaid and Medicare — and even health care for all. All the while, we’ve lost the right to an abortion and reproductive rights are being attacked every day. We need to connect these struggles and demand change.

Pass local legislation to increase charity care. Penalize local hospitals who are illegally chasing down families for health care bills. Pass state level health care for all bills. You can start by learning more about medical debt, how to cancel it, and care for all.
Congress passed some reforms with the Inflation Reduction Act. But more MUST be done. They need to legislate health care for all. Or at least expand Medicaid, reduce prescription prices, expand Obamacare, add in dental and vision, and protect the right to an abortion.
Cancel medical debt. Use executive authority to expand health care. Codify the right to an abortion. Fight for paid sick leave. And push Congress to pass Medicare for All, so families and communities are safe.
